MCA course is an invaluable asset to the Department of Computer Science, Sourashtra College. With the approval of AICTE, New Delhi, three years MCA Program was started in the year 1998 and affiliated to Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai. With an enthusiastic welcome this program came alive and appears to be a perfectly impress one, fetching an appreciable impact among computer students. Simply saying MCA course is an apparatus to enter into the so-called sophisticated world of computer systems. As far as Department of Computer Science is concerned, the performance of MCA program is absolutely superb. Significance: Department of Computer Science is young and it has an awesome task ahead. This is perhaps Department of Computer Science, Sourashtra College’s best innovation to date; MCA course of Sourashtra College predominantly is playing a vital role and seems to be a milestone in the event of development of this college. MCA program becomes a very favourite inspiration to students. MCA is full of hope for employment and scope for successful emergence. MCA has charisma, a powerful quality to attract all the students who are striving for future career in a progressive way. The world has been dwarfed by the victorious emergence of computer applications. Our faculty doyens are aware of what is happening in and around the world and to make special efforts to achieve a noticeable victory over computer dominating arenas. Through ECLAT, a national level IT Symposium is well organized every year to share the views and observations of students of various Colleges. MCA department is maintaining good performance (last year result (26/29 passed) out of which 19 students acquired 1st class with distinction). Industrial visit for every 15 days is an added glory to this department. Infrastructure: MCA department has a number of rooms to accommodate Office, Professor & Head of the Department, Faculty members and MCA classes. Also we are having five well designed, latest built giant-size halls, for conducting classes and other allied educational activities such as seminars, tutorial session. Giant size conference hall with magnificent atmosphere is functioning for the cause of students. Our buildings are well erected to get fresh air. All the classrooms have an air of luxury. MCA new block is a modern building with gracious beauty. In short, the MCA block is awe inspiring in size and design. We take due consideration with each infrastructure on its merits. We have an oceanic and resourceful library with spacious halls to accommodate students. We have a full-fledged and immensel computer systems occupied lab with well equipped imported and recently arrived IBM machines. We are very eager to install a powerful video conferencing theatre in the MCA premises. Our speciality lies in utilizing LCD projector for the purpose of teaching. Library: We have a separate and captivating library for MCA with a qualified Librarian. College has invested a very huge amount of Rest. 25 lakhs for buying Books, Journals, Periodicals, CDs etc. We have more than 5,000 books to issue to all the students. We are buying international level computer magazines & journals and newspapers for sharpening the minds of students of Computer Science. CDs and research publications are kept at library for the use of students to know minor details. We have multiple collections of books and piles of research publications. In our Library 1200 titles consisting of 5000 books, more than 200 CDs and about 20 Research papers are kept ready for the use of students and staff. To ensure speedy, reliable and accurate current information to teaching faculty and students, we have automation of library services with CD-ROM collections, in addition to the installation of CDs ISIS software. Besides these facilities, we are going to become a member of MALIBNET, Chennai, in order to avail inter-library resource sharing facilities. We are having a unique and separate system in library to use the catalogue and resources available in the library. Computer Lab: Well-equipped, air-conditioned computer lab is available exclusively for MCA programme. And moreover we a re fully equipped with qualified programmers. At a time 70 students can do the programme in computer lab.
Placement Cell: There is a separate wing effectively functioning for the cause of placement of students suitably to IT industry. Various reputed IT industries frequently come to our Institution for selection of MCA students both for Project and Placement. |
