| 2. History of the Department: |
The B.Sc degree course was started in the year June 1975 in Sourashtra College, Madurai and upgraded as a PG department in August 1986.

| B.Sc(MATHS) : |
| 3. Eligibility for Admission: |
The candidate should have passed the Higher Secondary Examination conducted by the Board of Government of Tamil Nadu with Mathematics and Physics as compulsory subjects.

| 4. Duration of the Course: |
The duration of the course for B.Sc(Maths) is three academic years comprising six semesters with two semesters in each academic year.

English

| 6. Subjects to Study: |
Part I : Tamil/Hindi/Sanskrit 4 semesters
Part II : English 4 semesters

| Part III : Major – Theory Papers |
- Four compulsory computer paper namely C Theory, C++, Ms-Office and Foxpro. (Papers for B.Sc Third Year)
- Calculus, Analytical Geometry of 3 Dimension, Theory of Equations, Modern Algebra, Analysis, Operations Research, Numerical Methods.

Ancillary Physics for I year & II year B.Sc(Maths)

- Two computer practical papers in fifth and sixth semesters.
- Ancillary Physics practical for I year & II year in the even semesters.

| M.Sc(MATHS) : |
| 7. Eligibility for Admission: |
The candidate should have passed B.Sc degree in Mathematics with a minimum of 35% in the major subject will be eligible for M.Sc(Maths)

| 8. Duration of the Course: |
The duration of the course for M.Sc(Maths) is two academic year ( four semesters).
