The College started functioning on June 22, 1967 and was formally inaugurated on the 7 th September 1967. There is a General Body consisting of about 8900 members.

The Objectives of the Sourashtra College Council are to provide education at all levels in Arts, Science, Commerce, Computer, Professional, Technical and other job-oriented courses etc., to the students of all castes and creeds and linguistic Sourashtra Community (Minority) students etc. and to provide facilities for specialised studies in technology and research and to promote Indian tradition and culture.

The Self-Finance courses were started from the year 1993-1994 in order to cater to the needs of the aspiring student community and also to meet the increasing demand for admission. Highly qualified and experienced teachers are teaching in these courses. Visiting Professors are also engaging various classes.

The undergraduate classes for Self-Finance courses are conducted in the afternoon between 1.45 p.m. and 6.05 p.m., after the aided course classes are over. The timings for the P.G. courses are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

At present a Team of 125 experienced staff is rendering teaching service to about 2000 students (both UG&PG) in various disciplines.

The students are allowed to participate in various competitions including sports activities, arranged by the college for the aided courses.
